Archbishop Carl Bean
Minority AIDS Project stands today as a testament to the vision and leadership of its founder, Archbishop Carl Bean.

Archbishop Carl Bean founded Minority AIDS Project (MAP), the first nonprofit agency in the United States established and led by people of color to address the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS in communities of color. Under his leadership, MAP became a pioneering force in education, advocacy, and direct support services.
Bean also founded Unity Fellowship of Christ Church, a progressive denomination rooted in social justice and inclusion. Recognized nationally with honors from organizations including the NAACP, the National Minority AIDS Council, and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Archbishop Bean’s vision, community service, leadership, activism, and ministry continue to leave a lasting legacy.
